“The Spectacular Spider-Man” deserved better

Why I’m your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, of course! – Spider-Man

Year Released: Mar. 8th 2008

The Spectacular Spider-Man was a show produced by Sony and based on the famous Marvel comic book character, well, Spider-Man. Greg Weisman, which is a name you may be familiar with, was the show’s creator. He’s famously known as the creator of Gargoyles, Young Justice, and of course, Spectacular Spider-Man. For those who know, that fate of this show was an unfortunate one. Commonly hailed as the best animated Spider-Man show, it only lasted 2 seasons with a total of 26 episodes. There were plans for a 3rd season, however, Disney bought Marvel from Sony and the deal resulted in Marvel getting all animation rights for the character. In turn, Sony would get the live action film rights for the character. One such movie review can be read on our site here, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Through my own personal experience, I would catch the show every now and then on DisneyXD, which were season 2 episodes funny enough. I was never completely invested into the show as the art style threw me off. I was coming off of the back of shows like Spider-Man TAS (The Animated Series), Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. Sadly, I missed out on the hype train for the show during its airing due to that, but that theme song was always extremely catchy. Take a listen, if you can and let us know!

Spectacular Spiderman Intro HD (Blu-Ray 1080p)

In 2022 I took the time last year to really sit down and watch the show in its entirety, and what can I say besides “Amazing”. Josh Keaton and Peter Parker was a brilliant move and he immediately loved his performance. Along with Yuri Lowenthal (Ben 10 series/Spider-Man PS4&PS5), they’re my number one picks for the roles and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We all know the story, Uncle Ben is gone, Peter lives with aunt May, he’s struggling with his social life, and he’s a high schooler. The twist in this series is that it starts with him just months after becoming Spider-Man and has known Eddie Brock since childhood. We see him making rookie mistakes, making quips, growing as an individual and in Spidey fashion, web up enemies for cops. I won’t bore you with all of the details, but even for a Disney show, it tackles darker topics, like addiction, pretty well. You’ve made it this far and are still interested in the show, I implore you to check it out if you have Amazon Prime, as a few years ago there wasn’t an easily accessible way to catch the show.
