“Sonic The Hedgehog 2” made me excited for the sequel

Year Released: Mar. 30th 2022

Sonic simply couldn’t come to the big screen just once, no no no. So of course, just 2 years later, we were greeted with a sequel to the story with most of the cast returning and then some. The same director, producers, and collaboration companies to work on the CGI characters as well as Tyson Hesse coming back. As mentioned in the prequel’s review, we saw Tails in the post credit scene and this time he’s a main character, along with the surprise of Knuckles this time. Like in his debut game, he’s set up to fight Sonic during their initial meeting due to Eggman’s interference. I neglected to mention in the previous review, but a downside to the first movie was its minimal usage of game references and sadly its sequel followed suit.

I won’t spend time going over the plot details considering if you’re here, you probably already know it. I’ll head straight into my review, and I’d say I liked it more than the first. Jim Carrey and Knuckles (Edris Elba) stole the show for me. It’s not to say that I had no enjoyment with the other characters, but they were mostly “alright”. The wedding scene went on for far longer than it should have, but ended up being crucial to the plot, so I won’t dismiss it entirely. My favorite scenes are the fights between Sonic and Knuckles, the final fight with the movie’s interpretation of the Death Egg Robot from the classic games. Of course, I’ll mention the amazing Super Sonic moment and that sweet sweet post credit scene. I’m here for it as Shadow The Hedgehog’s been my favorite Sonic character since the early 2000s. Just this month we received both confirmation that production on the 3rd film has started after the actor and writer strikes have ended
