“Renfield” is a 2023 horror comedy that stars one of my favorite actors, Nicolas Cage. The movie is directed by Chris McKay who is best known for directing “The Lego Batman” movie.
The film follows Robert Montague Renfield a former real estate lawyer who was roped into being the assistant and familiar of Dracula played by Nicolas Cage, now Renfield’s entire existence revolves around being at Dracula’s beck and call. Now comparing this to an abusive relationship, Renfield goes to anonymous meetings for victims of abuse to find a way to break free of Dracula.
“Renfield” can be mediocre at times and mid-tier at best because of the questionable decisions that a lot of the main characters make throughout the film with Nicolas Cage only making sporadic appearances throughout, however, the only redeeming quality of “Renfield” is Nicolas Cage mainly because of his overacting which makes the few parts he’s in more entertaining.
All in all, “Renfield” will not appeal to everyone but if you’re like me who’s a fan of Nicolas Cage’s over-the-top acting this film may be worth a watch, even though there are movies out there that captured the zaniness Nicolas Cage a lot better.
