Better Call Saul TV show poster, season 1

“I’m number one on your speed dial right next to your weed dealer.” – Saul Goodman

Year Released: Feb 8th 2015

Better Call Saul is a show set within the same universe as the ever popular, Breaking Bad (review here). The show follows the origin of the infamous Saul Goodman to the events after Breaking Bad ended. Scoring even higher than its predecessor, Better Call Saul sits at a highly acclaimed 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and a similar feat of 9/10 on IMDb. The cast sees Bob Odenkirk, Rhea Seehorn, Jonathan Banks, Michael Mando, Giancarlo Esposito, Tony Dalton, Patrick Fabian, and Michael McKeen. Like Breaking Bad, you can watch the entire season on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Personally, I went into this series with mixed feelings as it didn’t have some of my favorite characters I loved. That all changed not long after the first few episodes. Bob’s acting hooked me right in and I even started to appreciate Saul more than I thought I would. It also served to expand the BB universe with characters we haven’t seen in the prior show. I would get excited for moments seeing moments which I knew would play a role in BB. If it hasn’t been stated before, DO NOT watch BCS before BB as you WILL be spoiled on plot details.

I’m not sure which show I liked more out of the two shows. Both have some of my favorite characters by this point, even though Saul relies on BB more than the opposite. My personal experience comes from marathon watching the episodes as I knew about them, but wasn’t interested in watching until years later. If anything, this puts me into a unique position of watching the shows only a few years apart. What I will say however, is that both were a great experience from start to finish and all I have left to see is “El Camino”. It seems to be a sort of long episode/short movie which focuses on a character set soon after Breaking Bad ends.
